First and foremost, the Sand Pit is a Combat room. This means that you do not have to enter the room and can not be brought there against your will.

The Sand Pit is a kill/capture zone. Any Free Woman or slaves that wonder in the Sand Pit without a guard or the mention of a guard are subject to capture (this includes kolared slaves). With the presenting of a post to a Council member of the Jewel, showing that a proper capture has taken place...said capture WILL BE HONORED in the Jewel.

The only exception to this rule, is if a Jewel kolared slave is tending to the chores of keeping the Sand Pit raked and cleaned. This chore must have been assigned to the slave prior to the chore being attended to.

Once you enter the room, however, you agree to ABIDE by the outcome of what occurs there as determined by the Judges and/or the Council of the Jewel.

To use the room, you must first make a challenge to another Gorean or a weakling from Urth who may have wandered into the Jewel of Gleaming Thassa and the challenge must be accepted. Each party to the challenge may choose one judge of their choice to officiate. The Third Judge must be of the Council of the Jewel. Further more, all parties to the Battle must agree to the stakes and any limitations prior to the battle and all stakes and weapons will be declared to the Judges prior to the battle beginning.

If slaves are used as booty, the Free, as well as the slave, must acknowledge their stand to all three Judges prior to the battle. The judge will record these agreements and enforce them. If a Free is fatally wounded any slaves staked on their behalf are forfeited to the victor. Any slave that refuses to abide by this forfeit will be banned from the Jewel.

Spectators (including Free Woman) are welcome to challenges, but may not interfere with the challengers. To do so is to be banned from the Sand Pit immediately!

Any use of the room without both a formal challenge and a Judge present will be considered sparring (there are no fatalities in sparring) the outcome of which has no standing in law.

In the event that a non-combatant is using the room for any reason other than a battle, and an issues arises where a battle must take place, a judge may either remove said non-combatant from the room, or ask him to cease and desist his activity until such time so the battle has taken place.

Formal challenges have priority over sparring.

This is a place of Honor and combat any other activities will NOT be tolerated!!!
The ruling of the Council of the Jewel is final and can not be reversed, even by the Judge who so ruled it.
